Since 1996, St Luke’s Hospital (SLH) has been dedicated to caring for the ageing population in Singapore. To continue to serve the growing needs of the community, SLH is organising a Charity Dinner 2023, themed “Celebrating Silver – Circle of Life”. This year, we turn our focus to Palliative Care, one of our core areas of service to raise public awareness and underscore the importance of holistic palliative care and support in maintaining the quality of life for patients at the end-of-life.
Event Details
Date: Friday, 15 September 2023
Time: 6.30pm – 10.00pm
Venue: One Farrer Hotel, Grand Ballroom
Guest-of-Honour: Dr Tan See Leng, Minister for Manpower & Second Minister for Trade and Industry
Dress Code: Formal (Coat and tie for gentlemen / Cocktail dress or gown for ladies)
For this dinner, the theme is centered around love, loss and closure. While grief and bereavement looks different for everyone, it is possible to find closure. We hope to highlight the voices of the departed, who would wish for their loved ones to continue living a positive life and cherish the fond memories of love.
Through this fundraiser, we hope to help raise much-needed funds for the beneficiaries of all our services, who are mostly from low-income families.

It was Mikaela’s fourth birthday. Her doting grandfather made sure he was home to celebrate the special day for his little grand princess — in his patient pyjamas, and a wheelchair and oxygen tank in tow.
With Felix Tay, 74, receiving end-of-life care in the hospital’s palliative ward, the family was not in the mood for any celebration. Plans changed when nurse manager Emily Ng called to convey Felix’s wish to celebrate his granddaughter’s birthday. With the hospital’s support in making sure all contingencies are in place, Felix managed to secure a 3-hour home leave.
In the brightly decorated home, Felix recounted not being able to hold back his emotions, hugging Mikaela, telling her, “I love you very much. Grandpa might not be with you very long…” The young one had posed many questions without being fully aware of the situation.
The home visit might be short, but it was impactful for Felix as it brought closure not only for him but also his family. “I am very thankful to the SLH palliative care team for making this possible,” he said as tears rolled down his cheeks.
Felix recounted the moment to us before he passed away last July.
